The perennial questions of modern society:

  • What can I do to make the world a better place?
  • How can I take care of my own needs at the same time?

Local Cabbage is a powerful answer to both of these crucial questions. Local Cabbage wants to know: What do you need, and what can you offer?

Goal

Create a highly flexible global organization of local networks that support healthy, sustainable, meaningful work that makes the world a better place by directing the world's resources to where they are needed the most.

Philosophy

All living beings, by their very existence as living beings, have inherent needs for healthy growth and development, and the more successful we are in helping each being meet it's needs, the more successful we will be as individuals, as a species, as a planet, and as a universe.

What's this all about?

Local Cabbage wants to combine hi-tech Web 2.0 networking with low-tech traditional social and business relationships to help people find the resources they need to be healthy and happy, and to encourage people to offer resources to others so that they, too, can be healthy and happy. Local Cabbage intends to create a sustainable economy and work ethic with the quadruple bottom line:

  1. Understanding one's own needs
  2. Acting to meet one's own needs
  3. Understanding the world's needs
  4. Acting to meet the world's needs

Huh?

Think of Local Cabbage as an infinitely adaptable network that combines the most useful and wonderful qualities of the classified listing service Craigslist, the social networking (with a purpose!) community Zaadz, the community-service organizations Ithaca Dollars and Time Banks, and non-profit community centers, food coops, and adult education centers everywhere. Local Cabbage wants to be a worldwide network that helps people make a living helping others live well. It's like an employment coop where you offer goods and services that you create in exchange for the goods and services that you need.

Why is Local Cabbage so special?

There are countless classified listings, social networking sites, databases, adult education schools, Time Bank programs, but creating a program that combines the goals of all of them, and is specifically designed to educate people about their needs (bottom line item #1) that ALSO helps them meet those needs (bottom line item #2) and ALSO helps them help others (bottom line items #3 and 4) is what's so special about Local Cabbage. Local Cabbage is truly a one of a kind idea.

What do I need from you?

Start by taking care of your own needs! (Yes, those are the first two lines of Local Cabbage's quadruple bottom line!) And then, when you feel inspired, you can contact me for more information about how you can help. I can give you lots of details, plans, background resources, and suggestions for what this project needs to become a reality.

Oh, and I'd be absolutely tickled if you asked me questions about the project!

With Cabbagy love!
